Throughout this semester I have used many techniques that I have learned in class during my clinical internship.  In addition, I have used much of the information from this program during my clinical internship to assist me in making choices for my patients.

Recently, during my internship, I was working with a patient recovering from a CVA who also had Parkinson's Disease.  This patient had some inattention to his right side due to his CVA, so I used verbal cues to remind him to turn his head and scan the hallway during ambulation.  To help the patient’s festinating gait due to Parkinson’s Disease, I put colored strips on the floor and had the patient step over them as he ambulated.  I also worked on his balance while encouraging bigger movements by having him throw and catch a ball in varied planes.  All of these techniques were taught in class and I was able to use them in the clinical setting with positive outcomes.

There is so much information that we ingest in this program, and at this point we use it without even realizing it.  My Clinical Instructor and other therapists at my internship point out how much information is being folded into my work.  Although it has been a rigorous program, I feel well prepared for working in the Physical Therapy field.
